Online weight management
Online weight loss services, explained.
JoinGRI is being structured to support an appropriate clinical pathway for regulated treatment. Here’s how online weight management works, what an assessment is for, and who makes clinical decisions.
How online weight management works
1. An online assessment
An assessment asks about your goals, your health and what you’ve tried before. It gathers the information you provide; it isn’t a diagnosis or a prescription.
2. Clinical suitability
Prescription treatment requires assessment by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional. Where regulated treatment is involved, clinical suitability must be determined through the appropriate clinical process — and that process may involve further questions or verification, such as a recent weight check.
3. The outcome
Completing an assessment does not guarantee treatment or a prescription, and no particular medicine is guaranteed. Where treatment isn’t clinically appropriate, other support — including speaking to your GP — may be more suitable.
4. Supply
Where prescription treatment is clinically approved, supply and fulfilment must take place through the appropriate regulated pharmacy or clinical pathway.
5. Ongoing support
Weight management continues long after a first decision. Food, activity, sleep and regular review remain the foundations, whether or not treatment is involved.
What JoinGRI is — and isn’t
JoinGRI is an online platform. JoinGRI is not itself a pharmacy or the individual prescriber unless expressly stated otherwise. JoinGRI is being structured to support an appropriate clinical pathway for regulated treatment; clinical decisions are for the appropriately qualified healthcare professional, not for JoinGRI.
Is an online service right for me?
An online service can be convenient, but it isn’t right for everyone. It isn’t for emergencies, and it doesn’t replace your GP. If you have a complex medical history, are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, or have had an eating disorder, speak to your GP first.
Checking any online provider
Whoever you use, you can check that a UK pharmacy is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and that an online prescribing service in England is registered with the Care Quality Commission.
Frequently asked questions
Will I definitely be prescribed treatment?
No. Completing an assessment does not guarantee treatment or a prescription. Prescription treatment requires assessment by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional, who decides what, if anything, is clinically appropriate.
Can I choose my treatment?
No. You can share your preferences, but where regulated treatment is involved, clinical suitability must be determined through the appropriate clinical process. No specific medicine is guaranteed.
Is JoinGRI a pharmacy or a prescriber?
No. JoinGRI is an online platform. It is not itself a pharmacy or the individual prescriber unless expressly stated otherwise.
